Wills On Ice With A Twist
Your wills online is designed to help your family manage the disposal of your estate when you’ve bit the dust. Whilst yours may be simple, here are one or two memorable ones.
To You I Leave Flopsy Who Will…
It seems prudent to make a will. All of us understand that, but actually getting around to it seems such a hassle. How much consideration went in these “wills with a difference”?
Even the famous magician and escape artist, Harry Houdini, couldn’t escape death. Having perished from a ruptured appendix, one of his greatest surprises came with the will reading. His magic supplys went to his former partner Theodore, who was in addition his brother. His mystical skills didn’t work on the next items – his ample collection of books on magic and the supernatural. He left these to the American Society for Psychical Research, but with the requirement that their research officer J Malcolm Bird, who also was the editor of their journal, stood down. They turned down the conditions the compilation was given to the Library of Congress.
The white rabbits that he used in his performance came out of their hats and were given to the kids of friends. Continuing the wierd style, his gave his spouse 10 words, which was a secret code, with the promise that he would employ these words to reach her from the afterlife. Each year for 10 years, following his death, she reliably held séances, but Harry never made contact.
Rock and blues singer Janis Joplin had a brief but interesting history. She made many rock classics and four albums, including “To Love Somebody” and “Me and Bobby McGee”. After years of drug addiction, she died from an overdose, aged 27. Two days before her death in 1970 her cheapest wills the figure of $2,500 to fund an all night wake at her favourite pub so that her friends could “get blasted after I’m gone.” It must have been some celebration – that was an appreciable amount of money back in 1970.
We’ve all heard of people that, unexpectedly, donate all their estate to the cats’ home, much to the dismay of their family. Many family rows start when a will is read. As long as there is no reason to doubt the clear thinking and freewill of the writer when the will is made, there is often nothing that can be done to object to such a decision.
Eccentricities apart, if you pass on without writing a will, those whom you would want to inherit will not always be the ones that do so. You might have a partner of several years, but if you’re not married or in a legal partnership, he or she won’t get your money, in spite of your aims and affirmations. This can be upsetting when it’s not clearly stated and can result in awkward fiscal consequences.
The current method to get your will started is to go online and locate a cheaper wills . However simple your aims are, it’s best to have the professionals to write it for you and you can be sure that you’re leaving things exactly how you would want.
